On this blog, I’ve mentioned harpists spend 50% of our time tuning and the other 50% of our time playing out of tune!! (Not quite reality, but close!!)
In Minnesota, we’ve recently gone through numerous temperature changes – one day, hot and the next day, quite cool. This, of course, wreaks havoc on the harp’s tuning. Before starting to practice, I didn’t tune and as I was playing, it sounded like several strings below middle C were out of tune. When I checked the tuning, it was only ONE string that was “out.” I found that amazing and a lesson that all strings are all connected. Yet, when one is out of balance, it “throws off” the whole harp.
Isn’t this true for humanity, too? When one string (person) is out of balance, it throws off the whole system. Definitely food for thought…
