I was recently reading an article about songlines and the sub-title of the article was “The Memory Paths of the Earth.” So, what are songlines? In this blog post, I will summarize the article I read.

Songlines are living sound pathways of the planet that remember the memories of connection – mountains to rivers, caves to sky domes, trees to stars, etc. They are not a story, poetry or belief system. Humans once knew not only how to walk the songlines but to sing them alive, keeping the Earth’s body pulsing harmoniously with the heavens.

Are songlines the same as ley lines? No, ley lines are the skeletal backbone of the planet’s energy; they are the invisible “wiring” creating telluric current and cosmic light throughout the Earth. Songlines are the living music that runs through this wiring. A ley line is fixed geometry while a songline is the frequency of life that moves through it.

And the harp analogy(!):  ley lines are the strings giving form; songlines are the melodies that play on the strings giving movement.

What if songlines are broken or ignored? The planet forgets part of itself. For example:

  • Water stops flowing.
  • Forest lose their hum.
  • Winds become chaotic.
  • Weather becomes unpredictable.

And humans:

  • Lose their own inner melody.
  • Lack belonging, are disconnected and confused.

These living rivers of sound ran across France, Ireland, England, Tibet, Africa and the Americas.

  • Mary Magdalene walked them, reconstructing the feminine current that was cut.
  • Yeshua walked them and sang light into the core Earth structure.
  • Indigenous elders guarded them – if the songs stopped for too long, not only would the world tilt but humans would forget how to be human.

So as lay people, what can we do?

  • Walk a songline and remember who we are.
  • Sing one to feel your breath become part of the planet’s heartbeat again.
  • Heal one to restore brokenness, specifically a path between Earth/sky, human/spirit and creation/Source.

And what are musicians to do?

  • No need to chant in tongues you don’t know.
  • No need to play music I haven’t learned.
  • Walk slowly; let footsteps become like prayer.
  • Breathe with the land.
  • If you intuit a sound, sing/play softly without force.
  • If you play an instrument born of the land (e.g., wood on the harp), let it carry your heart more than your skill.
  • Songlines respond to sincerity, not performance.

In summary, songlines are living, breathing threads of Earth’s memory waiting to be sung alive again … do you find this inspiring and motivating to go out and connect to these Songlines? We sure do!!
