I was recently in a conversation with a friend who created a recording using AI-generated music. I challenged her and said, “Why didn’t you use ambient music (or specifically harp music) – the real thing?!” Her response was, “Does it really matter? Isn’t music, music?”
Before I commented on this exchange, I want to say music has already been “dummied down” from CDs to downloads to now streaming. (This is a way for the consumer to avoid paying for music.)
So, now with music’s value depreciated with streaming, the newest “invention” is generating music using AI … oh my! As a musician specializing in vibrations, I invite us to reflect on the power of a live human feeling the energy of a situation (as in a meditation) and playing to this energy. Doesn’t that feel different than AI-generated music? It does to me and you can let me know your thoughts…
